Electricity Connections. Simplified.
Eclipse Power Group has entered into an agreement to acquire the independent network distribution operator (IDNO) Vattenfall Networks Ltd, marking a significant step in reshaping the energy distribution market. The sale is expected to be concluded by the end of 2025 and upon completion*, the combined entity will create one of the UK’s leading IDNOs.
Eclipse Power Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Octopus Sky Fund**, owns and manages connection infrastructure across the UK. This landmark deal will drive innovation within energy distribution, accelerate investment in net zero infrastructure, and simplify grid connections for developers and businesses nationwide.
The acquisition extends Eclipse Power Group’s distribution and transmission expertise, allowing it to scale up the delivery of flexible and cost-effective power connections to projects ranging from housing developments to renewable energy and data centres. At a time when key infrastructure schemes face grid bottlenecks, it consolidates the group’s ability to unlock projects and investment through innovative, customer focussed power solutions and reflects Eclipse’s strategic determination to innovate and accelerate the pace of positive change in the UK’s power connections space.

Eclipse CEO Spencer Thompson said: “Eclipse stands for simplicity in electricity connections. This acquisition reflects our strategic determination to innovate, and our intent to accelerate the pace of positive change in the UK’s power connections space. The acquisition of Vattenfall’s UK distribution business demonstrates continued confidence in the IDNO model and in the broader energy infrastructure investment landscape. As the market evolves, larger IDNOs play a vital role alongside local DNOs, ensuring resilience, shared capabilities and long-term sustainability. Vattenfall is a strong cultural and technical fit for Eclipse, and the move combines two highly skilled teams. The result: stronger, more focused IDNO expertise that supports renewable initiatives, provides greater consumer value and gets critical infrastructure projects moving again.”

Stewart Dawson, Managing Director of Vattenfall Networks Ltd, added: “Vattenfall’s IDNO business has performed strongly since entering the UK market. Eclipse’s strength, innovative culture, and commitment to fossil-free solutions make it the ideal environment for us to continue to thrive. This acquisition ensures we can continue to set new standards in UK power connections and deliver outstanding services to UK energy customers.”
The creation of a single, strengthened IDNO marks a pivotal moment for the sector –showcasing that collaboration and consolidation can go hand in hand with innovation, competition and the net zero ambition.
