Eclipse Power Group announces leadership transition and appointment of new Chief Executive Officer
Eclipse Power today announced that after four years at the helm, Spencer Thompson will begin his path to retirement in April 2026 after a distinguished career of 35 years in the Electricity/Rail industry.
Spencer has scaled the business significantly in that period delivering for the investor and creating new value in complementary business lines establishing an electricity networks group to meet customer and market demands.
Eclipse Power is very pleased to announce the appointment of Emma Ford as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from February 2026 as part of a three-month handover from Spencer ensuring a smooth leadership transition and continued strategic alignment.
Since 2021, Spencer has overseen a period of exceptional growth and transformation for Eclipse Power, helping to position the company as a forward-thinking grid innovator. Under his leadership, Eclipse has achieved a series of major milestones including:
- Delivering sustained year-on-year business growth and outperformance across all services for investment deployment and long-term yields.
- Completing a successful rebrand, strengthening Eclipse’s position and value as a customer focused networks entity in a rapidly growing and volatile market.
- Progressing through Eclipse’s Independent Transmission Operator (ITO) license aspirations process.
- Building the Group electricity networks platform by launching Eclipse Power Solutions grid consultancy, and Eclipse Power Optimise private networks and microgrids offering; broadening technical capabilities and service reach.
- Establishing a foundation for future European expansion exporting the Eclipse Power model to offer electricity networks agility and technological thinking for medium sized networks and portfolio customers.
- Creating strategic partnerships like Future Point Manchester to bring new innovative ways to connect large renewable and demand customers to the grid at Transmission supporting UK growth ambitions.
- Establishing Eclipse Power as a customer focussed industry partner for Government regulators, authorities and network operators to influence future connection policies.

Emma Ford joins Eclipse Power Group with more than 20 years’ experience across the UK and European energy infrastructure sector, having led major operational, cultural and commercial transformations within complex environments. Most recently, she served as Vice President and Head of Generation at Ørsted, where she oversaw a portfolio of offshore wind assets. Prior to Ørsted, Emma held senior leadership roles at National Grid and EON, directing large-scale electricity and gas infrastructure programmes, interconnectors, and renewable energy projects.
Throughout her career, Emma has led teams delivering measurable and lasting impact — from restoring a critical international interconnector asset to service ahead of schedule, delivering major organisational transformations, through to setting new standards for wellbeing and performance across the utilities sector.
